li 3 MILLION NEEDED
One and a half million buttons are urgently needed i'or reconditioning good clean surplus Army garments lor clothing the suffering peoples of Greece and other countries through U.N.R.R.A. (United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration). The si7.es required are (1) Men's overcoat type 15/16", flat ? no shaft, four holes, any colour; (2) Trousers type 11/1 (i" four holes, any colour. The former are roughly the size ol a shilling and the latter that of a threepenny bit. Because buttoning may be done with special machines,, it i.s necessary not only to have perfect buttons, but also uniform sizes] as above, both for diameter and holing. A Dominion wide drive for buttons will take place and Brownies, Guides, Rangers and Guiders will all have a part to play. Residents of Whakatane are urged to sort out ail the buttons they can spare of the type described and have them ready for the house to house collection which will take place tomorrow*
