TAIL END OF THE MOBS

THOSE who heard Mr R. W. Schofield's description, at the East Coast Railway meeting in Whakatane, regarding the pitiful sights which he had witnessed as the 'tail end of the long-travelted mobs of cattle and sheep' passed his gate, cannot have but* been moved, by the tale of the halt and lame, as they stumbled on painfully to the weary miles which lay ahead. There are few observant persons in this district who have not seen similar sights, and will not agree wholeheartedly with Mr Schofield, when he states that if by the completion of the rail link with Motuhora, the suffering of thousands of foot-sore dumb animals is averted, the Chambers of Commerce represented at the. meetingwill have done a splendid thing.
