ACCOMMODATION QUESTION
NEED IN WHAKATANE
Y.W.C.A. SUGGESTED
At the meeting of the Wliakatanc Borough Council held on Monday evening, a letter was received from the Bay of Plenty Centre of the Rexl Cross Society drawing attention to the need in this town for suitable boarding accommodation for young ladies such as could be supplied by a branch of the Y.W.C.A. The let-if ter held no suggestions but contained an offer to co operate with the Council in the matter.
Cr Sullivan stated that what they wanted was a really good economical hostel.
The Mayor, Mr B. S. Barry, said it was not clear by the letter, what was actually wanted. He thought perhaps the Red Cross were, suggesting they apply to the Y.W.C.A. to establish a branch in Whakatane. Even if this were done j and consented to, there was still the difficulty of finding suitable accommodation.
The Council decided to write for urther information on the matter.
