POWER CONSUMPTION
♦ - ADDITIONAL LOADING
INCREASE IN QUOTA NEEDED
In view of the fact- that the additional loading at the Wha. katane Hospital on the completion of the new wing would more than absorb the permitted increase in poweT the Whakatane Borough Council f at its meeting on Monday evening decided that the whole position with respect to the building additions and consequent additional loading be placed before the Electricity Control J e'r.
The Borough Electrical Engineer, Mr F. W. estimated that the new hospital block would mean an increase in power consumption by 3 per cent. The permitted increase stood at 2.3 per cent. Isolated houses being connected and additional electrical installations all meant an increase in consumption and at the present stage it was inii possible to supply the hospital with an extra 3 per cent.
Cr Sullivan stated that it. would be a pity to put the Hospital Board in that position and suggested placing the. matter before the Controller.
The Mayor agreed that everything possible must be done to obtain an increased quota at the same time drawing attention to the fact that inland towns were not suffering to the. same extent. Whakatane, lie said, was still based on the blackout period.
It was ilecUlcd to contact the Hospital Board suggesting that representations l*e made for an increase in the allotment of power.
