Waimana Gala Day
AH roads will lead to the Waimana Domain on Easter Saturday where that district is staging its patriotic gala day. An imposing programme which includes riding j jumping and pony events, chopping and athletics as well as races ioi the kiddies has, been arranged j and will doubtless draw a large crowd of spectators and competitors from the surrounding districts. Over £125 has. been earmarked for prize 15 guineas of which will lie awarded in the Open Jump (£lO 10s, £4 4s and £1 Is). A further £18 will be handed over in the Open Handicap Chop (14" block) in the form oi £15 for first > £2 for second and £1 for third. iMie athletic events are also notable for the value of the prizes offered j and (Returned Servicemen takft note), a special race for Returned men of the Armed Forces, will be held. £1 is the first] prize and there is no entry fee. | Children's events are well to the fore and provide opportunities for teams as well as "every man for himself" events. Novelties and stalls will hold a prominent place in the scheme of things while a Maori Hangi of the; type which has proved so popular in the past will also be open to the public. No effort has. been spared to make this gala day one that will be remembered and we have no hesitation in saying that it will probably be one of the most successful of. the season.
