CONSULTING THE MAORI
THE decision of the Hospital Board ,to consult the peoples in connection with the control of tuberculosis is as welcome as it is farseeing and diplomatic. Until we areprepared to recognise the Maori ability to assist himself we are scarcely likely to make much headway by way of introducing formulated laws governing hygiene, or by improved sanatoria accommodation. The true cure lies with the Maori education and attitude, all other measures introduced by the Pakeha can be classed as mere signposts by the way.
