WAIRERE WATER
CHLORINATION NECESSARY
! At the last meeting of the Whakatane Borough Council, a letter was received from the Medical Officer of Health, stating that it had come to his hearing that, the water from the. Wairere Stream had. on several occasions been allowed to enter the •9 Whakatane mains. The water was highly unsatisfactory and the council's; assurance was sought that this would not be. permitted to happen again unless the water was chlorinated and treated against possible disease. The Mayor stated that, as it would be necessary to clean out the reservoir in the near future water from the Wairere Stream would have to be utilised, in order to keep up the supply. It was decided to assure the Medical Officer of Health that all precautions by way of chlorination etc. would be taken before thi& source of supply was tapped.
