WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT WAIMANA
The Waimana-Nukuhou branch of the Women'sc Institute ) held its monthly meeting recently. There was a good attendance of members and several visitors. Mrs Wylde presidand opened the meeting by asking members to observe two minutes silence in respect of a member of Mrs Woolfield's family who hacl lost a son while serving in 'the* R.A.F. overseas; The Eisteddfod which is to be held at Taneatua in March, was well dis-. cussed } members agreeing to enter for numerous competitions. "The Roll Call "Memories of Childhood Days" was fairly well responded to. A pronunciation and general knowledge test } proved interesting and-educational. Nominations were received for the new committee. Mrs Wylde was elected president for the ensuing year, being unopposed . The day's competitions were aa follows: Best double flower Mrs T. Wardlaw 1; Mrs H. Wardlaw 2; Mrs F. Bell 3. Best single Mrs. Stevenson 1; Mrs Hewitt 2; Mrs -F. Bell 3. Best Mrs N. Clark 1; Mrs Hewitt 2; Mrs; F. Bell 3. Prettiest lavendar bag, Mrs F. Bell 1; Mrs Gallagher 2; Mrs H. Wardlaw 3. Red currant jelly, } Mrs F. Bell 1; Mrs Gallagher 2;, Mrs Hew-, itt 3. Two best onions, Mrs Hewitt 1; Mrs Savage 2; Mrs Clark 3.
Afternoon tea and the singing of the National Anthem closed the meeting.
