AWAKERI SCOUTS

BREAKING UP EVENING

DEMONSTRATIONS AND DLS PLAYS One of those bright evenings Tor which scouting in this, district, is now becoming well known took place last Saturday night when Scouts of the Awakeri troop staged their breaking up gathering lor 1944. There was. a good attendance of parents and friends and an interesting programme of sketches and scout demonstrations was warmly appreciated. Scoutmaster T. who was in charge of the proceedings briefly addressed the gathering and ex plained from time to time the objectives of the training and the meaning of the various displays.. The Chairman of Mr N. Carter ? also took a prominent part in. the evening assisted by the Secretary and Mr W. H. Rushbrooke. One of the most humourous items was a realistic skit*on the trials of motoring which was handled by the Scouts in a manner which fairly doubled up the spectators-. Following a dainty supper provided by the the Commissioner for the district took the. opportunity of ad-, dressing the assemblage congratulating the troop on the standard it had attained and expressing the hope that, he. would see all boys attending the annual camp in the New Year. He also presented two of the boys with their Second Class badges. The gathering broke up with an informal dance in which all participated.
