Seagulls Not Protected
Though it is a generally accepted fact that a person who causes the death of a seagull is liable for proit appears that tliis impression is a fallacious one. In reply to a complaint from the Grey District Acclimatisation Society concerning black-backed seagulls Avhich were attacking lambs in the Poerua district, Otira line } the Department of Tnternal Affairs has- advised the Society that these birds are not in* any way protected under the Animal Protection and Game Act 1921-1922 and. as far as the. Act is concerned there is no necessity to apply for authority to destroy them,,
