COMMISSIONER'S GESTURE

Over sixty Guides and Brownies were, present at a Xmas party given I) 3' Commissioner Barry last Tuesday afternoon at the Caledonian Hall. The afternoon was originally intended to be held in the grounds of Mrs Barry's residence but owing to the inclement weather it was decided to transfer the scene of the party to the Caledonian Hall. As ever with Guide and Brownie parties, every kiddie, present, from the tiniest Brownie to the oldest Guide, entered fully into the spirit of the occasion which made for a highly entertaining tw r o hours. Games and competitions were the order of the day and the very successful organisation of these, by the Commissioner and her assistants was evidenced by the manner in which they were accepted by the. girls in blue and brown. The guests arrived at approximately 4 p.m. and a late afternoon tea was served shortly after. This was the. highlight of the party. Commencing with fruit salad the kiddies gradually worked their Avay through small larger cakes big cakes ? Blanc mange (in lightfullrtones and half-tones) pikelets sandwiches, hot. drinks ■T ? ' ' drinks and finally a slice of Xmas cake apiece.. The spread was ? in faet ? one of the best seen anywhere. since the commencement of the w r ar. During the an interval was called for the enrolement of four new Brownies. After the new members had been formally inducted into the pack more games were held 6 p.m. when the close was called much to the regret > of everyone.. At the conclusion Guides and 7 Brownies formed a liorse. shoe and Lieutenant Reardon thanked Mrs Barry on behalf of the girls for the : splendid afternoon she had given ( them. Three cheers were then call- - ed for and responded to heartily ; and Guides and Brownies wended their respective ways home with , memories of one. of the most, pleasant Xmas parties they had ever at- ■ tended. i
