COMBINED SPORT

DEVELOPING LOCAL DOMAIN

SUBSTANTIAL SCHEME

PLANNED

The scheme for the development of the local Domain for sporting activities is at present receiving the consideration of a committee comprising representatives of foot*, ball cricket basketball and tennis clubs and the School Committee. A deputation waited on the Domain. Board and submitted a plan giving the suggested locations of cricket pitches, football garounds, tennis courts (both concrete and grass), basketball courts, athletic track, bowling green, swimming bath and children's playground. At the suggestion of the Board the deputation subsequently met members in the Domain and fully discussed the proposals on the ground. Several minor j alterations, were agreed upon and a final plan is at present being prepared. Estimates of the cost of the proposed work have been completed and it is the intention of the committee to submit the. matter to the Minister of Internal Affairs with

a request for a subsidy. It is hoped that the Minister will visit Whakatane so that the matter may be fully discussed Avith him. Tentative plans i'or raising a large sum locally are in train and these will be further considered when a reply has been received from the Minister.
