MEETING IN WHAKATANE

AN INTERESTING AFTERNOON

The monthly meeting of the League of Mothers was held in the Presbyterian Hall on October 31 Mrs Gartshore presiding over a fair gathering. Mrs C. Armstrong read an interesting and well considered paper on "Pictures" dealing with their tremendous influence on the lives of both adults and children. The subject a\ as then open to the meeting many members expressing different views and all entering into the spirit ol discussion. Mrs A. Bridger gave as. the thought for the month, considering it appropriate "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." Mrs Appleby then spoke, her subject being Paris.'' She pointed out that the Paris she, spoke of was prewar and described scenes and places that were familiar to most of us in narae , giving as a vivid picture in her own able manner. At the conclusion we could all feel regret, and sorrow that this Paris had suffered desecration at the. hands of invaders. At Mrs Appleby's request, and accompaniment Mrs Scho/ield sang feelingly "The Last Time I Saw Paris." Tea was served by members of the the meeting concluding with the singing of the National Anthem.
