FIRE BRIGADE DANCE
A REMINDER is given to the dance-loving public of the Annual Fire Brigade Dance to be held on Friday evening next in the Winter Show Hall. This event which constitutes the only opportunity when citizens generally can show their appreciation of the splendid services of the towns voluntary Brigade promises to outbid any of its forerunners in standard and brightness. Proceeds will be devoted to the Brigade's Social Fund.
Proposed Waimana Pound An inspection made of suitable ground for the establishment of a pound at Waimana and an area of 2% acres was selected adjoining the council's property. This lias running water and is high and dry flat land. The estimated cost of establishing the pound is £345 made up as follows: Land—2% acres, £80; fencing, £60; shed i} £70; £40; gates and strainers, £20; legal and land sales court £20; survey, £15; pound board £15; cartage and incidental expenses £25. £345. | Early Strawberries With regard to a paragraph which appeared in Friday's issue dealing with a subscriber in Commerce Street who has a number of strawberries already ripe another reader informs us that lie, together with his family has been eating home grown strawberries and cream regularly for the past fortnight or three weeks, but did not consider the fact worth mentioning till the par referred to appeared in the Beacon. As previously stated, the Bay of Plenty is certainly one of the most fertile areas; in New Zealand.
