Advertisements lor Tuesday's issue may be received at 'Phone, or at the office on Tuesday morning up till 8.30 a.m. New House Surgeon The. question of advertising for a House Surgeon for the Whakatane Hospital was discussed by the Board last week and was finally referred to the secretary to obtain further information for consideration next month., Fractured Wrist A fracture of the left wrist was sustained by Norma Magee aged 12 years of Stewart on Tuesday afternoon as the result of a fall from a bicycle. She was- admitted to the Whakatane Hospital where her condition is reported to be satisfactory. j Learnl-io-Row Week The Whakatane Rowing Club, has instituted a learn-to-row week, which commences tomorrow. The scheme is to interest would-be rowers earlier in the season than has been the case in the past. Rowing last season made great strides and it is. hoped that by making an early start in the training of new members that the standard will be even higher this season. Otakiri Madhatters Dance The attention of dance lovers is drawn to an advertisement in this issue, setting out the Madhatters Dance to be held at Otakiri. > The whole of the evening will be. devoted to a novelty entertainment of a most unique variety. The dance will afford an opportunity to those of original ideas, and it is noped that all will enter into the spirit of the occasion and make for an evening that will be long remembered. Hats of the most ludicrous nature will add to the. fun and Ota,kiri challenges all-comers to do their best (or worst) in this respect. United Orphanages' Appeal Tfye annual street day appeal by the Auckland United Orphanages Council will be held in Whakatane today in conjunction with similar appeals throughout the Auckland province. No less than 700 children come within the Council's sphere and as a result of last year's collection it has been possible to pro£13 for each of the children. It is estimated that 2s! 6d will keep one child for one day. The appeal is e'rstirely undenominational and embraces Anglicans, Roman Catholics, Presbyterians, Baptists and members of the' Salvation Arvny.
