DO FARMERS WANT LABOUR?
TODAY sees the conclusion of the period allowed fanners in which to make application for harvesting labour under the: Army Scheme. Up till last Wednesday,.the secretary of the Primary Production Council reported that only two applications had been received. This, and the fact that last year there \yas considerable wastage of manpower owing to a number of applicants from this area failing to make use of the: men they nominated, would lead the authorities to believe that farmers in the Eastern Bay do not require labour and that ail representations of the past under this head, are without foundation.
