GRANT OF £2500 AVAILABLE t WORK IN THE COUNTY .<■* ' In a letter to the Whakataner County Council the Department of Agriculture notifies that an amount of £2500 is being made, available to the Council for the control of noxious weeds, for 1944/4 - season. The same working conditions apply as in the past seasons, except , that where preparations of arsenic or sodium chlorate are, being used an interim payment of 50 per cent of wages costs will be allowed for cost of material, transport etc. and up to 55 per cent over the season's operations. No responsibility was accepted by the Department for any claims lor compensation arising out of the use of arsenical wced-ikillers, and an indemnity .should be obtained by the Council from farmers concerned. The. County Clerk reported that a letter had been directed to the Department of Agriculture, asking if the Ruatoki' grant of £500 for materials was included in the council's grant of £2500, or whether a separate grant of £500 would be made. The Council instructed the County_ Engineer, to make the necessary preparations for the current season's work.
