ANNUAL MEETING
WHAKATANE ROWING CLUB ELECTION OF OFFICERS The annual general meeting and election of officers of the, Whakatane lowing Club was held in the Borough Council Chambers on September 18, the retiring M.r Hayward, occupying the chair. fin opening the meeting, he remarked with gratification on the large number of rowing enthusiasts present, amongst whom Ave re many older men whose interest would be of great, value to the club, partLcu* larly at a time when more activity in the sport was likely. As this was the first meeting of the club since 1940 and with nearly all the members' of that time being overseas, certain difficulties in • procedure were likely to oceur y but he felt it was in the best interests of the. club to overlook these and place affairs on a sound footing for the coming season. After considerable Mr Rex Morpeth moved that the club be re-constituted, as it was in prewar days, and after this was pass> ed the election of officers was car' rie'd out, the results being as follows: — Patron: Mr B. S. Barry. President: Mr C. Hayward. Vice-presidents: Messrs G. Lodge, H. N. J. Rivett, N. G. Mackley, T. Atkinson f Price Brebner, E. Ramson t C. Armstrong, S. Tippett, A. J. Moore,, J. Mulholland. C. Kingsley-Smith, W. Henderson "and S. Snr. Club Captain: Mr J. Gattsche. Deputy Captain: Mr W. Rivett. Secretary: Mr R. King. Treasurer: Mr R. Morpeth. Hon. Auditor: Mr L. R. Spring. Management Committee: Messrs. Lodge Cameron, Rivett, Morpeth, Fisher' W. Smithy R. Moore, MabDonald, Hunt and Dines. Selection Committee: Messrs R. Morpeth A. G. and J. Gattsche. Subscriptions: These were fixed at £1 Is for senior members: (over 21 years) and 10s 6d for junior and associate members. A financial statement covering last year's activities was presented,, showing the club to be in a sounder position than for many years past. Mr W. Rivett, commenting upon this, paid a tribute to the junior rowers of the last year or two, by whose efforts most of this money was raised. Mr S. Dent, an old member recently returned from overseas, spoke of his pleasure, in seeing so much activity in the shed, aijd urged tlie committee to make the rules of the club available and displayed prominently, and to see that these were enforced, in the interest of the exM pensive gear involved. In concluding the Mr Hayward spoke of the indebtedness of the club to those citizens and older rowers who had given their time and money to restoring the shed to its present and for the energy which had been put into the revival of rowing in Whakatane.
