OBITUARY

MR R. MEYER The death has occurred of Mr Richard Meyer of Landing Road, one of the staff of the Bay of Plenty Power Board who will be, well remembered by the people of this town in that connection. Mr Meyer was born in 1888 in Basle, a town on the border of. Switzerland where he received his. cdu-r cation. As a young man. he went to London to take a position in a shipping office, his knowledge of several languages particularly suiting him to the job. In his early twenties he, left this employment to come to New Zealand and settled in Taranaki. His first job in the Dominion was on a farm where he worked foi some time before joining the Taranaki Power Board as' a storeman. Later he, joined the Armstrong-Whit-worth Company as a tally clerk. This was an English firm and at that time was engaged on running the railway extension from Paeroa to Tauranga. In 1927 lie left this employment to take up a position in the Power Board office at Whakatanc which was at. that time, just commencing. Up till the time of his deal* he was employed there consistently. Shortly after his arrival in New Zealand he was married to Miss Mischefski of who predc,ceased him by eight year&. Mr Meyer who had only been married a few months before his death leaves two s-:ons, Ivan (Wha katane) and Waiter (Cross Creek).
