PRACTICE MUST STOP
Part of a report submitted to the Whakatane County Council by the local Health Officer (Mr A. R. Knights) contained reference to the habit of certain shopkeepers, who habitually placed rubbish and waste matter on the waterfront a practice wfiich should be put down by prose, cution of the offenders. Commenting on this point the Mayor said that the Council had not the authority to prosecute, as the harbour front came under the Harbour Board which had intimated its Avillingness- to prosecute only when specific cases were brought to its notice. The Council decided to notify the Health Officer of the position and request him to furnish the necessary evidence for the Harbour Board to act upon.
