PEACE CELEBRATIONS
PLANS FOR THE BOROUGH
MEETING TO BE CALLED
"I think we should bear in mind some suitable way of celebrating the peace when it comes" said Cr C. S. Armstrong at the meeting of the Borough Council last Monday' evening. The speaker went on to say that the firs!t news of an armistice would be greeted by spontaneous celebrations but later on it » would be to have some organised form which could' be planned for now. He suggested a public meeting of interested organisations and 1 persons. The Mayor said he had given the matter some thought already, and had written away to the Mayor of Auckland for a copy of his proposals. It might be as well to await J;he- •reccrpt~Trfr these before making any move. j "I believe we should entertain the kiddies for a start" said Cr Shapley, who thought that every effort should be made to impress tlie young minds with the importance and meaning of the occasion. He mentioned a sports meeting and a bonfire. It was decided to await a reply to the Mayor's letter before calling a public meeting from which could be set up a committee.
