FIGHTING AND OBSCENE LANGUAGE INCIDENT IN BAR On two separate charges of fighting and using obscene language, Kani Kingi, a returned soldier, was yesterday lined a total of five pounds before Messrs J. King and T. J. Cummings, J.Ps. Qn a charge of fighting Tata Maui was also fined two pounds. Prosecuting, Sergeant Farrell stated that the two accused were fighting in the private bar of the Whakatane. Hotel. After being separated, Kingi made use of the obscene language as stated, in the Strand, and behaved in a violent manner. The Bench in addressing Kingi, said that as ( he was a returned soldier, it was. more prepared to deal leniently with him, but stressed the fact that any future offence would not be so lightly dealt with. Kingi intimated that he was taking out a prohibition order. Accused was convicted and fined £1 on the first charge of fighting, and £4 on the charge, of using obscene language. Maui was convicted and fined £2 on the charge of fighting.
