HOUSE TO HOUSE CANVASS The Wliakatane Borough and Ohope is called upon this year ta rai.se approximately £1300 for patriotic purposes by December 31st next. Consequently, it has been decided to adhere to the. .system of monthly house to house canvass which was "so successful last year. Forty-live helpers have agreed to assist Avitli the collection, and donors may give this, year's contribution in one sum, or by instalments. The. following are some of the ways in which Provincial Patriotic Funds are used for the care and assistance of members of the Fighting Services: Weekly parcels to prisoners of war; comforts to Military, Naval and Air Force personnel overseas and on troopships; entertainments and sports gear for men in camp; provision of wool for knitted comforts; maintenance and equipment of recreational huts; relief of distress arising from air-raids in England; any many other extremely necessary . causes. The public is reminded, that the . canvass this year is conliiied from , March to October inclusive, and that after the receipt of the October . payments, a complete list will be publielj' acknowledged in the press.
