Followers of. rowing will have been interested to notice the appearance on the river each night of crews undergoing stiff training. One main of the- inlluence.s behind this activity is the forthcoming contest for the Rivett Challenge Trophy, presented by Mr J. 1). llivett for the purposes of encouraging young rowers, in litis, district, and to further the sport generally. His offer lias been quickly taken up, and the .first challenge comes from members of the club enrolled in the Air Training Corps, who will probablv be entering two crews in

the event. While this lias the full support and appioval of the oliir ccrs of the A.T.C., all the lowers concerned will be present members of the club.

The crews, which will be selected within a few clays, will have thorough coaching over a good long period, ancl on the day of the race some, good hot competition should 'esult. New members and supporters will be welcomed by the club and shouldget in touch with any of the present. members who will inform them, of the procedure by which one may become a member. The club is to be congratulated on its initiative* and its very evident spirit of "carryring on. : ' No doubt the winners of the trophy will need to keep in good training to successfully stave off further challenges.
