COURT NEWS
GIVEN LAST CHANCE-
Having admitted fraudulently con. verting a cheque for £25 14s 2d to his own use, David McGrory, aged 23 (Mr M. Robinson) appeared from Opoti'ki before Mr Justice Fair at
the Auckland Supreme Court, on Thursday, for sentence. Mr Cleal represented the Crown.
Bis Honour said it seemed that accused's, offences were due largely to laziness and irresponsibility. He. had no idea of. honesty or of his obligation to pay his way. It would seem that the proper sentence was one of imprisonment, but His Hon-: our had decided to give him a last? chance. He took into account, that accused had. been in prison for two months and alio that his wife was
apparently willing to resume married life with him.
His Honour said that sentence: would be suspended, and accused would be placed on probation for three years, with the condition that he reside in the Opotiki district with hisf wife, that he acceptaa- t proved employment and pay over the full amount of his wages to his Wife.
