LAND SALES CONTROL
WHAKATANE had its first taste last Wednesday of the much debated Land Sales Control Bill which constituted one of the major planks in Labour's political platforni last election. The sitting of the South Auckland Land Sales Committee revealed to the casual observer a group oi men who were not only prepared to give a fair and impartial hearing to all representations but to meet when occasion demanded certain circumstances which required unusual consideration. Those who may have felt that the commission would arbitrate with a heavy dictatorial hand will have been reassured by the attitude of fairness and obvious endeavour to maintain a goodwill balance.
Long* Journey Ends A long journey for 2500 wethers, which set out from Tokomaru Bay two months ago, arrived in Pa tea on Thursday. The distance was 450 miles, and the sheep were on the road for the whole distance. The sheep reached their destination in wonderful condition and without loss.
Remarkable Find Four years ago a Wairoa resident had tlve misfortune lo lose his upper denture whilst bathing at the Heads. Las I week bis dmghtcr while swimming in the same locality discovered the teeth, which were found to have suffered no ill-effects, despite their long immersion in salt water.
