Charged with assaulting "Rati'ka He.ripo at Te Whaiti on November 21 last, Tom Tawhara was lined £5 and costs. For supplying beer to Hapi Williams, a native, oil' licensed premises, Tawhara was convicted and lined a similar amount.
District Constable L. Bidoi.s told how, hearing a noise from a Public Works camp lie. arrived in time to see Tawhara strike the woman with an open hand,. Hapi Williams had prevented accused from repeating this act and, said the policeman,, Tawhara was found to be "paralytic, drunk," after consuming home-brew he had been making.
Hapi Williams was charged with commissioning an offence—the supply of liquor to himself—and was fined £2 and costs.
