PROLONGED DRY SPELL

UNLESS the rain which has been threatening on and of? for the past week materialises in the near future, farmers of this district state that dairy production will be very seriously affected. Thursday and Friday of last week brought heavy downpours on the verge of the plains in common with much of the Rotorua district but apart from a few light drizzles the coastal belt remained bone dry. The fine weather has now lasted for, nearly a month, and high country is already beginning to lose its spring sward, in common with that of a sandy nature so predominant in the vicinity of the town. Indications unfortunately are for continued dry weather.
