AS FIRE-FIGHTERS

CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTORS

DECREASE IN

NUMBER

The Duke of Bedford, who has his own ideas about the nature, of. the times we live in, is now demanding that the Government, should recognise "conscientious objection" to fire watching. Perhaps he's heard about the experiment which is: about to be launched in the United States.

Over there the authorities have a scheme in hand for the training of a number of conscientious objectors as parachute fire-fighters, the general idea being that they will b; % dropped by parachute at danger points when fires occur in the great national forests of the West. rt would be surprising if this does not result in a very considerable reduction in the U.S. percentage of "C.O.'s."
