The matter of alleged misrepresentation by .military defaulters in securing drivers' licenses from the liotorua' Borough Council alter having been refused them by the Whakatane County Council was again referred to at" AVe.dnesd.ay night's meeting of the. Borough, Council, when the borough solicitor reported that he had been very carefully into all the facts and in view of the wording of the regulations, lie could not recommend that prosecution bo instituted. He considered that, the prosecution might be expensive in the event of, failure as the council could be ordered to pay the costs of bringing the three men from the camp with the official- in charge, witnesses from AVhakatane, and the law cost of the prosecution. At the same meeting a letter was received from the AA'hakatane Council inspector outlining* the circumstances surrounding the applications made to the AVhakatane. County The whole, matter was referred to the Works Committee to consider the borough solicitor's loiter in conjunction with the information received from AVhakatane.
