SEA ROVERS VISIT
SCOUT COMMISSIONER'S TOUR
SKA SCOUT IXG LXTERESTS
A very interesting visitor to a number of the. harbours in the North Inland during November will be the little motor ship "Sea Rover." The captain of this vessel is Dominion Sea Scout Commissioner 1 ! Alex Black, of Duncdin. Commissioner Black is keen to increase the number of Sea Scouts' in New Zealand for. as lie .says, '"the sea is our heritage and we must know how to use it. and must get to know and love it." There should, he thinks, be thousands of boys in New Zealand who would be Sea Scouts if they could, and the object of his visit is to try to make 1 this possible. He thinks that if he comes in from the sea in his own shift, he will be able to do much more J'or the boy.s than by travelling around in the orthodox manner, and just talking to them. The ''Sea Rover" lias a length of ~>2 feet and a 14 foot beam. It was built to Commissioner Black's own specifications, and although finished only a few months ago, "lias already (lone several sea voyages. Commissioner Black has been interested in Sea Scouting since his boyhood days, and before his appointment to Dominion Status, was Scoutmaster of the Anderson Bay Sea Scout Group, which lie helped to build up to a high state of efficiency. Efforts are' being made by the local Scout Committee to arrange a visit to Whakatane and Opotiki as. soon as the date, cf Commissioner Black's, arrival is known.
