AERODROME SITE
INSPECTION BY PAV.D. OFFICERS COUNTY AXI) BOROUGH COXFER Representatives of the P.W.D. conferred with County and Borough members last Friday in connection Avitli the question of the construction of an aerodrome on a site suitable to town and country d'welliers. The party which included constructional engineers made a tour of the district which included! a careful inspection of the proposed site at Te Teko which has been recently cleared of the pinus plantation there. The visitors were: Mr Ronayne,. District Engineer Tauranga; Mr Thompson, engineer Public Works Department; Mr Haskell, Aerodrome: Engineer Public Works Department, Wellington; and Mr Pritchard, Mr Madden and Mr McDonald, Public Works Department, Whakatane. The county representatives were Mr J. L. Burnett (chairman) and Crs R. F. WardlaAV, A. F. MeGougan anel C. T. Smith. The Avhole question of the necessity for an ae.rodrdome in the Whakatane district which Avas the recognised centre for the Eastern Bay of PI en t Avas discussed in full and a co-operati\"e spirit prevailed throughout. In the afternoon the P.W.D. officers: met members of the Borough Council anel discussed the question further with a view to either prospective sites. The Avhe>le question Avill be the subject of a special report from the. P.W.D. at a later date which it is recognised Avill be the basis for the future guidance of both bodies* concerneel.
