OBITUARY
MRS J. FRASER The death has occurred in Matata of Mrs John Frascr. Mrs; Fraser was born in Maketu on October 3rd, 1898, and was a noble daughter of the House of Mokonu;iarangi. After being educated at the Matata Native School and Queen Victoria College, Auckland, she entered the teaching profession. Mrs Fraser took a keen interest in' native affairs from a veryearly age and was secretary of the Matata Maori Ladies' Committee from 1929 until her death. She, was also a member of the Matata Native School Committee, the local Patriots Committee and the guiding hand of. the Rangitihi Tribal Committee. She was a member of the Church of England and a pillar of strength in eliurcli matters: and wa* an indefatigable worker in the interests ol the Labour movement. Above all, she worked for the advancement of her tribe and for co-operation between Maori and Pakeha. lit was largely owing to her efforts that her ancestral pa was offered to llift Army for the establishment of the training camp for Maori Home Guardsmen that has, until recently existed in Matata. She is survived by her husband and. ten children.
