NUKUHOU W.I. • The dance held last Thursday evening under the auspices of the Women's Institute, was a crowning success, the function being in aid of parcels for the local men, who have gone overseas. The approximate sum taken was £::">. The dance music was played by Mr and MrsKing and Mrs W. Kagle free of charge. Extras were given by Mr A. J Jell and Mr G. Wardlaw. Mr D. Coynton made an efficient M.C. and Mr Morton was doorkeeper. Mr il. Wardlaw and Mrs Wylde were in charge of the competitions. A bring and buy stall did brisk business, Mrs

Gallagher and Mrs T. Wardlaw being in charge of same. The. supper arrangements and dance programme were in thei hands of the young members of the Institute who arc to be congratulated on the. way the dance was carried out. The novelty dances Ave re most popular and a set of Lancers was played by Mr A. Eagle on the accordion and much enjoyed by all who took part. Diu> ing the evening members of the. W.Il Drama Circle presented the play "The Great Crime," and Avas much enjoyed by all, and at the. conclusion. of, the play Mrs J. Wardlaw called on Mrs. Mitchell, the producer, to accept a gift from the players in appreciation of what she done lor tlxem and the work she had put in to produce the play. Mrs Mitchell most suitably responded, thanking the players for the gift. After supper, the opportunity Avas taken to make a presentation to tAVO soldiers, PriAate W. Pine of the Maori Battalion and. PriA'ate A. Angus. Mr J. L. Burnett, on behalf of all present, asked the guests to accept a Avallet. and its contents Avith their best Avishes, and hoped they would liaA-e a safe return to their home toAvn.
