ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
DISTRICT COMMISSIONER'S VISIT A public meeting of the St. John Ambulance Association Avas held at Edgecumbe on Wednesday evening last, and presided over by Mr AndreAV McLean. Mr H. D. Cobb. District Commissioner of the. St. John Ambulance Brigade A\ r as present, also Mr A. J. Canning, Chairman, and. Mr E. Dib licar, Secretary of the St. John Ambulance Association, Whakatane, together with Mr E. J. Ramson, Superintendent of the Whakatane Brigade. Mr Andrew McLean outlined the purpose of the meeting, Avhich was to discuss the formation of a Brigade at Edgecumbe;, and the securing of an Ambulance for Edgeeum. be. He then welcomed Mr Cobb and called upon him to address the meeting, and to explain the functions of a Brigade, Avhich he did in a A-ery explicit manner. The meeting decided to form & Brigade, and about 12 signed the necessary papers at the meeting. It is understood that others avlio could not attend the meeting ex. pressed a Avillingness to become members'. Mr J. Spiers Avas elected secretary and the. appointment of other officers deferred until tho. full membership is obtained. During the eA'ening, the Nursing Division was inspected by Commissioner Cobb avlio Avas very pleased Avith the result of his inspection and particularly commended the excellent work being performed by Mrs CoAvie in her capacity of licensed lecturer for St. John Ambulance Association in Edgecumbe district. At the close of the meeting a very enjoyable supper Avas supplied by the ladies of Edgecumbe, and was much appreciated by all.
