A WORD FOR THE FIRE BRIGADE

THE prompt work of the Whakatane Fire Brigade in suppressing the disastrous fire in Commerce Street last Sunday, has earned for the brigadesmen a certain belated recognition for the wonderful work they are doing. Too few people in Whakatane realise .the fact that this town is served by an organisation for fire-fighting which entirely voluntary is pledged to the protection of householders at any time of the day or night. Without being unduly effusive may we say right here that we have every reason to be proud of and grateful to the men who comprise our firefightirig service.
