Borough Inspector's Report Reporting on his activities for the past month, the Borough Inspector. Mr M. Penny, stated that he had had several lots of rubbish removed from the roadside, at this time of the year people are constantly dumping their garden rubbish" on the roadside leaving it there till told it had to be removed, in some cases being unaware of it being an offence. The cutting of gorse this past month had progressed very well considering the shortage of labour. Three dogs have been destroyed during the past month.

Whitebait Season Although the Wha'katanc rivers have been flooded a great deal in the past few weeks the whitebait season has proved to be one of the best for many years. Splendid catches continue to be made and probably more people, than ever have been out on the banks of local streams in seafch of the delicacy.

Farewell To-morrow Evening Five men from the Whakatane Borough will be farewelled *'n the Borough Council Chambers to-morrow evening (Wednesday) at 5.15 p.m. Citizens please note. Methodist Bazaar To-morrow Readers are reminded of the forthcoming Methodist Bazaar which will be held to-morrow (Wednesday) in the Sunday School Hall. All the above will take part in to-morrow evening's Plunket Benefit Concert. Labour Day Golf Tournament Players of the ancient and honourable game of golf are no doubt looking keenly forward to the Labour week-end tournament which is Whakatane's premier golfing event. The prospects this year are better than they ever were and the fairways and greens were never looking better. Recent Edgeeumbe Fire The alarm in connection willv the outbreak of fire in the buildings of the Rangitaiki Dairy Company last week,, was given by four young men who were returning from a dance. They were Messrs Arthur Baldoi'k, Peter Burke, Jack Hosking, Jack Salvidge and Harold Taylor. Peter Burke promptly sounded the alarm whilst his associates gave the warning to the night watchman and members of the Brigade. Ihc. company feels greatly indebted to the young men.
