SCHOOL PLAYING AREA
I THE Headmaster of the Whakatane School (Mr I. Hubbard) in thanking parents and others for their support and patronage at the splendidly successful school children s ball, mentioned that the funds would go to school improvements, with particular emphasis upon the formation of the new concrete playing area. The difficulty confronting the school authorities is the shortage of cement and other materials necessary for the formation of this area, quite apart from the necessary funds required. Whakatane however, with its flair for co-operation in all matters concerning the school children s welfare should have no difficulty in arranging an all-out parents working bee which under proper supervision should be able to complete the job in a couple of week-ends. Could not this suggestion be put to the Education Department with the proviso that if it will but supply the materials the parents of Whakatane will see to the rest. What about it?
