RAGWORT PEST GROWS
CONCERN IN TARANAKI
Deep conccrn is being felt by dairying organisations in Taranaki over the number of farmers who,, because of inability to obtain .sodium chlorate to check the growth of ragwort, liave had to give up dairying, states a New Plymouth correspondent. lit was vital in the interests of production that other farmers should be prevented from doing thi.s. said the secretary of the Federation of Taranaki Dairy Factories:, Mr A. K Fyson. at Hawera. Therefore, farmers who contemplated giving up dairying under the impression that sodium chlorate Avould not be obtainable should know that stocks would be available. Mr Fvson saiii lie was aware of at least one dairy factory in South Taranaki which was likely to close down this season entirely as a result of the. number of herds which had been sold in the vicinity Jiecuuse of the spread of ragwort. Taranaki merchants state that they are hopeful of landing supplies of sodium chloratc in the near future.
