PROGRESS IN THE BAY Mr G. A. Whjte, Bay of Plenty organiser of the New Zealand Fanners' Union, in a recent statement, to the Bay of Plenty Beacon, said that lie. had just completed a drive for new members from Opotiki to Gape Runaway, with the result that three new branches were being formed at Te Ivalm, Torero and Apanui, the branches comprising all the farmers, in the area. He added that membership in the Opotiki and Waimana districts had been greatly increased. Mr Why to said that lie was commencing an organising campaign throughout the Rangitaiki Plains area, and he. appealed to every farmer to energetically support the organisation. Men, lie said, were joining the union to-day more freely than ever before realising that the need for unity was never more urgent. They had to combat the idea, prevalent in Government departments, that "farming can absorb any costs.'
