PINNED BY BRANCH
ACCIDENT TO WORKMAN
Something in the nature of a freak accident occurred to Mr F. lieiehardt, Whakatane County Council employee, on Tuesday morning when he was cutting limbs from a willow tree at Te Teko. He was standing on a branch ten or twelve feet above the ground, when the limb he was cutting through snapped off and swung back, striking his chest and pinning him against the. fork of the tree at his back so that he could not move. The limb which was pinning him was about 2oft Jong but, with what lie described as a superhuman effort, he earught hold of the branch and freed, himself, though the shock had been so great that lie could not even lower himself to the ground or for some time reply to his mate's suestions. Au attempt was made to bring Mr Reiclnirdt in to Whakatane by a County lorry, but after some miles hud been covered lie found this method of travel too painful, and he was, made comfortable, by the roadside, the ambulance being summoned from Whakatane. He. is at present, a patient in the Whakatane Hospital, suffering from a crushed, chest. His condition is satisfactory.
