A VERY GREAT LADY
Health District Fifteen cases, of infectious disease M r er reported in the East Cape health district last week. There were nine cases of pulmonary tuberculosis, two' of cerebro-spinal meningitis, two of hydatids, one of military tuberculosis and one of tuberculosis hip. Three deaths were reported from pulmonary tuberculosis.
THE arrival of Americas first lady, Mrs Eleanor Roose* velt, in New Zealand, is a gesture which should still further strengthen the bonds of goodwill between the Dominion and the great American Democracy. Although our honoured visitor will not be coming any closer to this district than Rotorua, we feel that in common with com-* munities the Dominion over we must voice our appreciation of her presence and extend to her the welcome which so many of us feel in our hearts.
Remanded Before Mr G. A. Brabant, J.P.. in the Wliakatane Court yesterday n Maori Turei Tc Kura who was charged with making out a cheque to the value of £3, purporting" to be signed by one J. Hauwaho with intent to defraud was remanded till the Magisterial sitting. Bail was fixed on two sureties ol £25 each.
