FAREWELL FUNDS BENEFIT WINNER OF -DINNEK SET' w'ell-attended dance was Jielcl in the Awakcri Hall on August 10 in aid ol tlie Farewell Committee's funds. Jhe hall had been tastefully decorated lor the occasion by Mrs Hepburn Senr., M.rs Hepburn Jnr., and Messrs F. Sutton, J. Baty and G. MaeDonald. Particularly pleasing was a display of flags of the United. Nations. Bright music was provided by Messrs Thompson. Davis and Broadmore . while Mr C. Mac.-* Donald Avas M.C. A splendid home-made supper was provided, by ladies ol" the district. During the evening Mr L. Luxton welcomed to the function several men who were, on furlough. He then explained the objects of the Farewell Committee the funds of which he .said would benelit considerably owing to the splendid; attendanceHe earnestly requested that the* local people should get behind the movement, by supporting the regular dances. Considerable interest was centred in the Patriotic Dinner Set Raffjle which was drawn at this function. The winning ticket was No. 3826, held by Miss C. M. Mcßae of Edgecumbc. Before making the draw Mr Luxton said that the raffle had been made possible, by the generosity of Messrs J. Baty and F. Sutton who had donated the dinner set. He thanked them and the band of willing workers who had assisted with the selling of tickets. Special thanks were due to Mr Thomas, of Cutler's Hardware in Wha'katanc, whoi had displayed the set and; sold more than £30 Avorth of tickets and Mr S. T. Keen of AAvakeri in whose shop over £20 Avort.li of tickets had been sold. In all a sum of* £118 was collected in this raffle, so that the district's quota has noAV been exceeded . Other raffle draws during the ing Avere as: follows:—Box of Chocolates donated by Mrs C. MaeDonald, winning No. 77, held., by Mrs Sclioav. Soldier's Cake donated by Mrs A* Martin, winning No. 55, held by Mrs K. Dunning. Pair of Ducks donated by Mr and' Mrs C. McKcnzic, won by No. 54. hekl by T.Warbrick. Note donated by Mrs A. .tDodunski. This Avas.,Va very successful raffle, thanks to the donor's energetic sales organisation. The. Avinning ticket, No. 163, was held by Mr D. Claris who generously donated the nrize to the funds.
