Money supplies It Avas unreasonable to expect any producer to supply his goods below cost, declared Mr W. Sullivan, M.P. for Bay of Plentj', discussing the Estimates, in the House of. Representatives last week/ Mr Sullivan said he understood that beekeepers' witii 20 or more hives, had to register, and the. hives were inspected periodically. In out-districts,, men with 20 to 25 hives had been in the I liabit of extracting and selling their i honey locally, and they had been getting from Js to Is 2d pe'ir lb. The division now demanded. 70 per cent, of the output, and, was offering 7d for first grade and s}&d for i the balance, which would, represent the bulk of the 70 per cent.. The remaining 30 per cent, could be. disposed of locally. Why was there the wide disparity between the Division's price and the. price obtained locally? It was natural that Ijeeikeepcts should refuse to extract honey at a price that would not pay them.
