SPORTS PAVILION WANTED

THE move by the Cricket and Basketball Clubs for the erection of a pavilion on the sports ground in the Whakatane Domain, is timely as it is urgently needed and has been overdue for years. The subject brings to mind the sum of approximately £300 raised by Queen Carnival effort, which was abandoned at the outbreak of the present war and which was lodged in trust with a committee until such time as it should be needed. The point we have in mind is this —would it not be possible to utilise some of this money, now that sport of all descriptions seems to be » reviving and now that many men from camp are being released and overseas men are being repatriated in small numbers. Alternatively would it not be. possible to reinstate the carnival and bring it to a conclusion in order to do the job properly. A fully equipped playing field with grandstand, dressing sheds, showers and all amenities would make the Whakatane domain one of the finest sports area in the Bay and would be in readiness to welcome sports in full swing when the boys come home.
