Word has been received that the Rev. R. Daj 7 , formerly of Whakatane, has indicated his intention of contesting the Thames scat as an Independent candidate in the forthcoming election. The Rev. Day is now stationed at Waihi.

"Though she may not have been known to you, I had the pleasure of meeting the late Mrs McCready several times," said Mr J. L. Burnett, chairman of the County Council at its meeting on Tuesday when moving a motion of sympathy to the McCready family. "Though of a quiet and reserved disposition, I can say that her kindly manner and her graciousness had won her a deep regard amongst a circle of friends at Taneatua." The motion was carried in the usual manner, ali present standing in silence.
