THIRD LIBERTY LOAN
WITH only eight days to go, and with the target figure set at £75,000, the Whakatane Postal area may be said to be now well on the way towards final achievement of its quota. To date there have been 191 subscribers to the loan bringing in a total of £38,490; 139 National Savings certificates sold to the value of £3,269, and National Saving Deposits totalling £1,717 making a total of £43,476 to hand. The effort can be considered satisfactory, in that the smaller subscribers are now definitely coming to the fore. Subscriptions range from £1, £5, and £20, to figures of all denominations up to £5000. There are obviously still many more: who have not as yet taken a hand, but the next week we confidently expect will see many new participants.' When it is considered that the Second Liberty Loan launched last year, aimed at £15 million, and that Whakatane then was quite proud of having fulfilled its final quota at £26,000, readers will gain something of the immense nature of the sum involved in the present campaign. «
