THEY GAVE THEIR ALL PILOT OFFICER A. F. MeLEAN Andrew Fras'er McLean always known as "Tika" was born Otoko, Gisborne, and' was educated there. After leaving school he 1 came over to Whakatane and! had been farming at Thornton before the war. 'Tika* was one of the enthusiasts who some time before the war formed 'a flying club at Whakatane. Instruction was given at Wliakatanc and the members often travelled to Rotorua for tuition. He obtained his flying license and on the outbreak of war unlisted in the Air Force. He was reported missing in the thousand 1 bomber raid 1 on Cologne and is now officially presumed killed. There has been no official news of any sort but private advice has been received states that his bomber got a direct hit oyer Cologne. 'Tika' must be regarded as one of those, the flower of our country, of whose exact fate nothing ■will ever be known, but who carried] out their duty to the end. To his family and' relatives go the deepest sympathy of town and district.
