WHAKATANE MEETS . PROSPECTS FOR SEASON Mr W. Henderson presided at the annual meeting of the Whakatane Rugby Union which took place last Tuesday evening. The chairman outlined .the. difficulties of. maintaining an interest in rugby under the present abnormaltimes but expressed the hope that the Union would endeavour to car/y on Avith the limited number of players available.
The election of officers , resulted: Patron, Mr W. Sullivan; vice-pat-ron, Mr W. R. Boon; president, Mr W. Henderson; vice-presidents, Rev Wharetini Rangi, A. Boswell, W. Alexander, T. A. Gee, J. I. Middlcmas, I. Tunui, R. Paora, J. D. Rivett and R. Morton; secretary, Mr F. Peebles; anditor, Mr T. E. Hainerton; hon surgeons, Drs F. J. Appleby and W. F. Cole. Delegates were pre ent from Wlitikatane, Ruatoki, and Tancatua Clubs and the Referees Association. Teams in View Teams were nominated, from Whakatane (junior), Ruatoki (senior and junior), and Taneatua (senior). It was .decided to stage the opening senior game on Saturday, June 19 the draw to be left to the secretary and. president". The junior competition will open to-morrow at Whakatane when Ruatoki juniors will meet the Whakatane juniors.
