INSTITUTE MEETING

The May meeting of the WaimanaNukuhou Women's Institute washeld in the Waimana Hall last. Wednesday afternoon. There was a good attendance of members, Mrs Hewitt presiding. The Institute song Avas sung after which Mrs Hewitt read the motto for the month, "Service Before Self."

Mrs Woollield was appointed, delegate to the Dominion Conference to be. held at Gisborne in July. The Roll Call was avcll responded to it being "An Army Joke."' A most, interesting debate followed "That Town Life is Better Than Country," Mrs Wylde and Mrs F. Savage speaking for the country and Mrs Mitchell and Mrs Cooper for town. The speakers for the country life were declared the winners.

Mrs N, Clark gave a very full report on the annual Federation meeting which Avas held in Opotiki. Mrs J. WardlaAv gaA-e a very interesting reading entitled "The Very Humane Mr Churchill." Several letters from soldiers were read thank.-, ing all for the parcels receiA 7 ed. The Sihver Rose bowl, for a talent competition, Avas Avon by Waimana by 8 just beating Matata, the funds raised by the Talent competition go to the. Patriotic funds. A competition guessing the length of a piece of avool by inches Avas Avon by Mrs Joe Addison.

The day's competitions were: Best single llower, Mrs F. Bell 1; Mrs Mitchell 2;, Miss E. Wardlaw 3. Best double flower, Miss E'. Wardlaw 1; Mrs Curham 2; Mrs F. BcLJ 3. Honey cake, Mrs I. Savage 1: Mrs F. Bell 2. Darned sock, Mrs Hewitt 1; Mrs 1. Savage 2; Mrs. F. Bell 3. Best vegetable, Mrs Stansbury 1; Mrs G. Mitchell 2; Mrs F. Bell 3.
